A brief introduction to Southern University of Science and Technology Hospital 

Southern University of Science and Technology Hospital （SUSTech Hospital）, located on the bank of Xili Lake and beside Shigu Mountain, is a tertiary comprehensive public hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, personnel training and international exchanges. SUSTech Hospital is supported by Nanshan District Government and administered by the Southern University of Science and Technology.

The hospital was founded in 1985 and ever since has been fully committed to medical treatment in the northern part of Nanshan for more than 30 years. On December 28th, 2017, Nanshan District Government and Southern University of Science and Technology signed a cooperation agreement and started a new journey of District-University cooperation. In May 2018, the hospital was renamed "Southern University of Science and Technology Hospital" from "Xili People's Hospital"with a new model of modern hospital operation and management supported by the government, entrusted by the University. The new model has a separate management and supervision, in the manner of Council system and corporate governance. On November 22, 2019, it had successfully achieved  comprehensive tertiary hospital status. The hospital is established as a modern first-class comprehensive university-affiliated hospital based in Shenzhen, which integrates medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and internationalization. SUSTech Hospital primarily serves Guangdong,Hong Kong and Macao,and The Great Bay Area and radiates itself throughout Southeast Asia.

The hospital covers an area of 26600 square meters, with a construction area of nearly 100000 square meters in the first phase, and a capacity of around 800 beds. At present, the second phase of the hospital project has commenced, and in the next five years, it will cover a total construction area of 220000 square meters and expand beds capacity to 1500 beds. According to the requirements of the District-University cooperation agreement, within five years, the hospital will be transformed into a 3A comprehensive university-affiliated hospital which integrates medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, talent training and internationalization.By January 2022, there were more than 1216 hospital staff, 300 with master's and doctor's degrees, 202 medical personnel with senior titles and 479 with middle-level titles. There are 36 clinical disciplines and 14 medical and technical disciplines. 

The hospital has set up the "Intelligent and Digital Surgery Innovation Center of SUSTech" with international and domestic leading level. It has four innovation platforms, namely 3D Printing Surgery Section, Virtual Reality Clinical Section, Rebotic Surgery Section and Bone Implant R & D Section. Based on the clinical practice, the integration of science, medicine and engineering, the hospital carries out a series of innovative clinical translational research and is committed to the development and integration of intelligent and digital surgical advanced technology to the "last mile" of clinical application. It is a frontrunner in demonstrating to the entire country, by introducing top international medical teams to commit to full-time service by setting up the International Orthopaedics Center (IOC) that provides the most advanced international medical services for the people in Shenzhen, the Great Bay Area and even Southeast Asia. The Department of Orthopaedics Surgery has successfully carried out the world's first mixed reality (MR) navigation spine surgery; the first national o-arm assisted Tianji robot spine surgery and incorporated other frontier technologies. The hospital Static Distribution Center is the first hospital in Shenzhen to pass the PIVAS acceptance of Guangdong Province. It has innovatively set up the Patient Care Department, exploring the "patient first" medical concept, service mode and doctor-patient system, which aims to optimize the medical experience of patients, and provide full-range and all-round humanistic care services for patients. The hospital will take the leading of advanced technology and international medical treatment as its characteristics, and strive to create 3-5 discipline groups with distinctive technical characteristics.

Advanced medical equipment: It is equipped with MRI, magnetic wave knife, 128-slice spiral CT, DSA integrated catheter room, 16-slice CT, double-plate DR, four-dimensional specialized high-end and whole-body color Doppler ultrasound, full-automatic biochemical and blood assembly line and other large advanced medical equipment. It has internationally advanced functional digital operating room, compound operating room, advanced simulation human center, PIVAS drug self-checking system and other functional digital facilities to provide support for high-quality patient service.

The hospital has invested in the construction of clinical skill training center, with more than 90 kinds of teaching models, including high-end comprehensive simulator SimMan 3G, super maternal comprehensive simulator SimMom, newborn simulation patient SimNewB, laparoscopic surgery simulation training system, etc. In 2018, the center was awarded the AHA international training center of American Heart Association, which is mainly responsible for the clinical skill teaching of various clinical specialties in our hospital. Meanwhile, it is also open to the outside world for first aid and professional training courses.

At present, the hospital is in a critical period of transformation and upgrading, empowerment and innovation, and developing at rapid pace.
